Understanding Facial Balancing: Benefits and What to Expect

Are you looking in the mirror and noticing that your facial features may not be as sharp or contoured as they used to be? Do you find yourself wishing for more symmetry, volume, or highlights to help with your confidence? Are you interested in improving your appearance, but don’t want an invasive procedure?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, then facial balancing may be the perfect solution. Facial balancing involves the strategic use of fillers to balance your appearance while simultaneously rejuvenating your face and enhancing your natural features. It subtly addresses everything—from the temples and chin to the cheek and jawline—to ensure harmony throughout.

You deserve to look and feel your best without the pressure of completely altering your appearance. Read on to learn more about what exactly facial balancing is, all the benefits, and how it can easily improve your confidence by elevating your look.

What is Facial Balancing?

So, how do you modify the actual features of your face? We promise it’s not magic—it’s science. More specifically, it’s achieved through the use of FDA-approved dermal fillers such as Juvederm, Restylane, or RHA, as well as the collagen-inducing biostimulant Sculptra.

Dermal fillers are formulated as a hyaluronic acid gel, prepackaged in a sterile syringe. Hyaluronic acid is natural to our bodies, but over the course of one’s life, the amount of hyaluronic acid produced in the skin naturally declines. Dermal fillers use the natural rejuvenating properties of hyaluronic acid to achieve facial balancing, treating your body with a material it’s already familiar with.

Although the actual process is in-depth, the mechanics of the facial balancing treatment are relatively uncomplicated. Facial balancing is an aesthetic technique that involves using dermal fillers holistically, as opposed to targeting just one area of the face. Unlike most other surgeries, like rhinoplasty or a surgical facelift, facial balancing is minimally invasive and requires little to no downtime.

The goal of facial balancing isn’t to change how you look, but rather to create a more proportionate, symmetrical, and refreshed overall appearance. It’s ideal for people who want subtle (but still impactful) improvements, regardless of whether you’re in your twenties or in your sixties, or male or female.

The most common areas where dermal fillers are injected during the facial balancing procedure are:

  • Cheeks: Your cheeks can experience volume loss as you age, creating less definition. Strategic facial balancing can add volume and contouring to this area.
  • Under-Eyes: Your under-eyes are prone to hollowing and dark circles, making you look tired. Facial balancing can smooth these areas out.
  • Lips: It’s not always about bigger lips! Defining lip borders and correcting asymmetry through facial balancing can go a long way in evening out your face.
  • Temples: Although often overlooked, temples play a key role in symmetry. Facial balancing helps create a smooth transition between the face and forehead.
  • Chin: Defining your chin through facial balancing can help you achieve a more even profile and create harmony in the lower half of your face.
  • Jawline: Facial balancing can use targeted dermal fillers to make your jawline more defined or angular, resulting in a sculpted appearance.

The Benefits of Facial Balancing

Facial balancing is extremely customizable and can be tailored to address a wide variety of facial structures and aesthetic goals. More specifically, it can:

Address Asymmetry

Asymmetry is completely normal! All faces have some level of asymmetry, but some are just more subtle or exaggerated than others. However, that doesn’t mean you can’t try and achieve balance with your appearance, particularly if your asymmetry makes you feel self-conscious.

Through the precise application of dermal fillers in a facial balancing procedure, you can subtly even out any asymmetries in your face. An example of this may be aligning the proportions of your chin or adjusting the contours of your cheeks in order to make your features blend more harmoniously. It’s not a one-size-fits-all fix—the enhancements are tailored to your unique facial features.

Help Volume Loss

As we get older, our faces naturally lose more collagen, elastin, and fat, leading to volume loss in the face. This volume loss can result in a hollow or more sunken appearance, particularly in our cheeks or temples. Facial balancing can target these areas and replenish them, helping you restore fullness and vibrancy to your face.

Decrease Shadows & Folds

Nasolabial folds (folds that run from the sides of the nose down to the corners of the mouth) and marionette lines (lines that run from the corners of the mouth down towards the chin) are a natural result of time and the use of our faces. However, these pronounced grooves can cause shadows that some may not find flattering.

Facial balancing addresses these areas by minimizing the look of folds or lines through dermal fillers, thereby reducing the shadowing and creating a smoother, softer, and more vibrant appearance.

How the Facial Balancing Process Works at Aesthetics 360°

Facial balancing is as much science as it is art. The slightest changes in facial proportions can affect what treatments are professionally recommended to achieve aesthetic goals. At Aesthetics 360°, we strive to give you natural-looking results that look like you, but with a newfound confidence and appearance that others can’t quite put their finger on.

Our team of experienced experts utilizes education as the foundation for all of our consultations. We learn about your concerns, aesthetic goals, timelines, and budget so we can get to work developing a customized facial balancing treatment plan based on your individual anatomy.

Step 1: The Consultation

The first step to any of our treatments is the free consultation. We prioritize our clients over everything else, so we want to make sure we do our due diligence to address your unique needs. However, just because someone comes in and requests a facial balancing treatment doesn’t mean they’re a suitable candidate.

We take time to consider what will work best for your face and will offer our professional guidance if we believe you’ll have better results with a different treatment. We want each of our clients to feel safe, cared for, and more confident than when they came. This means we do sometimes say no, but only so that you receive treatments that are right for you.

If we feel facial balancing is the next step, we can schedule a time for the appointment, which takes one to two hours on average. Often, the treatment will be staged in more than one visit to provide gradual results instead of injecting a lot of syringes in one sitting.

Step 2: The Procedure

Now comes the exciting part: the procedure! Your facial skin will be thoroughly cleansed using an aseptic technique, and the areas to be treated will be marked with removable pencil markings. The injections are administered in a precise manner, and before you know it, the treatment will be finished.

We understand that many of our clients are scared (or at least intimidated by needles), and that’s okay! We can use a topical numbing cream to help ease discomfort, and our nurse experts inject slowly and smoothly to ensure safety.

Depending on the area to be treated, Aesthetics 360° utilizes a handheld ultrasound to ensure that facial balancing is as safe and precise as possible. (A360° is proud to be 1 of only 2 clinics in southeast Wisconsin to use this technology!)

A handheld facial ultrasound lets us visualize beneath the surface of the skin to avoid any prominent arteries. We use technology like our handheld ultrasound to go the extra mile for our clients, because safety is always worth the additional effort.

Step 3: Post-Procedure Care

Once you’re finished with treatment, we will thoroughly review post-care instructions with you. Your clinical follow-up appointment will be scheduled before you leave the office (typically two to three weeks out), and our Nurse Specialist will plan to follow up with you the next day to check in and see how you’re doing.

At this later follow-up appointment, we will take photos, check the results, and, if needed, we may discuss next steps for continuing to stage results. We can schedule a maintenance treatment for anywhere from 6-18 months after your initial procedure.

Dermal fillers are not permanent, and their duration can vary depending on the area treated, the type of filler used, and your lifestyle. Maintenance is required to maintain optimal results and prolong the effects.
