Are you looking in the mirror and panicking at the sight of wrinkles? If the answer is a resounding yes, remember that wrinkles are a completely normal part of aging. They’re caused by a combination of diminishing collagen production as you age, long-term sun exposure, repeated facial expressions, and sometimes even genetics.
However, just because wrinkles are natural doesn’t mean you have to keep them—especially if they’re affecting your confidence. There are plenty of wrinkle-relaxing treatments that can smooth and soften the appearance of fine lines, with the most popular among them being Daxxify and Botox. But how do you know which one is right for you?
What is Daxxify?
Daxxify is an injectable neurotoxin that temporarily relaxes targeted facial muscles, smoothing existing wrinkles and preventing new wrinkles on the upper half of your face (such as frown lines, forehead lines, and crow’s feet) from forming. As an added bonus, Daxxify’s unique formula also includes peptides that enhance your skin’s quality—making it both a wrinkle treatment anda skincare treatment.
What is Botox?
Botox is also an injectable neurotoxin; like Daxxify, when it’s injected, the neurotoxin (made from a purified form of botulinum toxin type A) blocks nerve signals that tell our facial muscles to move, thereby preventing the formation of fine lines and wrinkles. It’s the most popular and longest-standing wrinkle relaxer on the market among both women and men.
What Are the Differences Between Daxxify and Botox?

Ingredients
Daxxify and Botox both contain the same active ingredient: botulinum toxin type A. However, Daxxify does not contain human serum albumin (which Botox uses as a stabilizer); as mentioned, it uses a proprietary synthetic peptide formula.
Results Time
Results from Daxxify tend to appear slightly quicker, usually within 1 to 2 days (making it a good option for people needing quick results before an event). Botox tends to take 3 to 7 days for results to become noticeable, with continued improvement up to 10 to 14 days after.
Results Duration
Botox lasts approximately 3 to 4 months on average. Meanwhile, in clinical trials, the median duration for Daxxify results was six months, with a small percentage of individuals experiencing results up to nine months. (Note: Both of these durations can be largely affected by factors such as lifestyle, metabolism, and muscle strength.)
Upkeep
Because Daxxify may last longer in some patients, maintenance sessions may only be required twice a year, while most Botox patients need maintenance injections anywhere from 3 to 4 times a year.
Uses
Botox can be used for both cosmetic and medical purposes, such as helping with migraines or excessive sweating. Daxxify, however, is only FDA-approved for treating glabellar lines (frown lines) and cervical dystonia (neck spasms), with all other uses being treated off-label.
Strength
One unit of Daxxify is not as strong as one unit of Botox—which means they can’t be used interchangeably. For example, for frown lines, around 20 units of Botox are typically recommended, compared to the 40 recommended units of Daxxify.
What Are the Similarities Between Botox and Daxxify?
Treatment Method
Treatment methods for Botox and Daxxify are done via intramuscular injections, which involve using a fine needle to inject the toxin directly into the muscle to block nerve signals. Both of these treatments also need to be performed by a licensed medical provider.
Cosmetic Goals
Although Daxxify and Botox can be used to address many skin and medical concerns, the main cosmetic goal of both is the treatment of dynamic wrinkles, which are wrinkles that form due to repetitive facial movement.
Safety
Both Daxxify and Botox are safe, FDA-approved (Daxxify was approved in 2022, and Botox was approved for cosmetic use in 2002), and clinically tested treatments. Botox in particular is backed by more than 30 years of published studies—plus, it’s approved for use in 95 countries!
Should I Get Daxxify or Botox?

You may feel unsure whether you should get Daxxify or Botox. Luckily, you don’t have to decide on your own. When you go to a well-established and credible med spa (like AESTHETICS 360º), a nurse specialist will consider things like your skin goals and facial anatomy before deciding which treatment is best.
They’ll ask you questions, such as:
- Is there a specific event you’re planning around? If yes, Daxxify may be recommended. If you’re not in a rush, Botox may be the better option.
- How often are you willing to come back for treatments? For those with a more jam-packed schedule, Daxxify may require less of a time commitment.
- If this is your first time with wrinkle relaxers, would you prefer something not as long-lasting? For first-time patients looking to make adjustments, Botox fades more quickly, making it easier to change your dosage amounts or placements.
- What skin concerns would you like to address? Want to get rid of eye wrinkles? Botox is likely the best option. Have stubborn forehead lines and textured skin? Daxxify may be a better fit.
