Lip Flip vs. Lip Filler — Which One Is Best For You?

Lip Flip vs. Lip Filler — Which One Is Best For You?

Gorgeous lips are always in. That’s why it’s no wonder so many women and men are turning to cosmetic alternatives for plumping and shaping their pouts. While lip fillers are usually the first option that comes to mind when considering a lip enhancement, there is also a new treatment everyone’s talking about: the lip flip. But, is it worth the buzz?

As many of you know, lip injections are typically performed with hyaluronic acid-based fillers, like Juvederm, Restylane and RHA. Fillers are primarily used to add volume and definition to both lips while a lip flip procedure provides a subtle enhancement to the upper lip without adding additional volume.

A lip flip procedure utilizes the subtle nature of Botox to shape the top lip. Botox relaxes the muscles around the mouth and might “flip” the lip line, creating a very subtle upper lip eversion and giving the appearance of a fuller pout.

While the lip flip might be a bit less invasive than lip filler, it will only last about six weeks — as opposed to lip filler, which usually lasts six to nine months (or more, depending on the filler). That’s quite a difference!

Plus, while results with lip filler are immediate, the subtle “lip flip” might take up to a week to show results, and will vary by client.
